Well tomorrow is the up-dose he has been waiting for since beginning his journey back in October.
If tomorrow's updose is successful Coby will be able to eat things 'made in a facility' with peanuts!!!
And that includes.... ENTENMANN'S!!!
Food freedom is finally beginning!!!!!
I still remember him coming home from school one day last year and telling me how his friend had 'mini bites' for a snack and how it looked soooo delicious and he wishes he could eat it. (And yes, of course I went on amazon right away to purchase a mini muffin pan and made him dozens of safe 'mini bites' for him to enjoy, so he wouldn't feel so bad. And yes he loooooved them, and I still make them for him, but it's just not the same thing...)
But after tomorrow, if all goes well, he will be allowed to eat actual mini bites!!!
Is this really happening?
I am so freaking excited for him!!!!!! I mean as a mom, the main reason I'm in it is for his safety, obviously, but I soooo need him to have actual tangible proof that this is working in the way he wants it to. I want to see that smile on his face as he gets to bite into his very first crumb topped donut.... into his very first mini bite...
Because as a kid, he's in it for all the goodies.
What kid wouldn't be?
Can you imagine being a 2 year old... a 3 year old, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 year old and being told "NO."
NO ICE CREAM STORES FOR YOU.
NO DUNKIN DONUTS FOR YOU.
NO YOU CANT GO TO HIS BIRTHDAY PARTY.
NO YOU CAN'T BUY ANYTHING FROM THAT ICE CREAM TRUCK.
YES... YOU CAN GO TO HIS BIRTHDAY PARTY.... BUT YOU CANNOT HAVE A PIECE OF HIS ICE-CREAM CAKE. (I'm not sure which one was worse for him that time.)
NO YOU CAN'T EAT FOOD AT SCHOOL PARTIES THAT DON'T HAVE LABELS.
NO YOU CAN'T EAT THE SNACK A FRIEND OFFERED YOU.
NO YOU CANNOT EAT THOSE COOKIES AT THE SHUL'S KIDDUSH.
NO YOU CANNOT EAT THOSE THINGS IN OUR SHALACH MANOT.
NO.
NO.
NO.
NO.
Through all these years Coby usually remained his happy optimistic self, but once in a while it really got to him.
Not too long ago he was crumpled up on the floor sobbing about how he couldn't have a lollipop because it 'may contain nuts'. And it was just heartbreaking to witness.
I mean how many NOs can a kid be expected to handle? At a certain "NO"- it just breaks the camel's back.
But now....
Finally.
FINALLY.
FINALLY.
FINALLY!
Some of those NOs are beginning to morph into YESes.
insert 'hallelujah' music here
It's been a long time coming.
This is the week G-d willing, that Coby will see his efforts beginning to pay off. This is the reason my eight year old, has refused to give up. This is the reason he continues to defy gravity day after day after day.
Honestly I am a bit nervous... he did have an issue just two days ago and we will be jumping up by
an entire peanut yet again.
And we sooooooo need this one to work...
It's been 238 days since we began.
This has been a long time coming.
GO GET 'EM COBY!!!!!!
AND BRING HOME THOSE DONUTS!!!!!
