PUNCH BAG

Do you remember that classic punching bag clown toy from your childhood? You know the one that no matter how many times you punched it down, it shot right back up...
Well, that is what it feels like to be us.

Punch after punch after punch.

But no matter how many times those peanuts will knock us down, we are going to get right back up.

The only problem is unlike the clown, we are not made of plastic, so we are starting to feel a bit beat up at this point... but we didn't begin our journey under the misconception thinking it would be easy...

Nothing worthwhile is easy.

I guess it was just our time to be sucker punched.

Again.

Well, we were told that even if you tolerate an up-dose at the doctor's office, you still may experience a reaction a few days later when doing that same dose at home.

Guess we had to click that off our check-list to get the full OIT experience before we get to graduation.

Come on graduation day!!!!

Jessi called us back today, after speaking with Dr. Selter, and Dr. Selter said it IS possible that even though Coby was outdoors over 4 hours before dosing, that the extreme heat could be partially responsible for his reaction. He also agreed that the reaction could also be due to the peanuts coming back up. Instead of having it in his throat just once (going down), it was in his throat two times.... and that being said they believe if we take those two possible contributing factors away that Coby could try this dose again!!!! AND if he can handle the dose he WILL be able to up-dose this thursday.

HUZZAH!!!!

So I need to make sure he eats the peanuts more slowly and carefully drinks his water to rinse out his mouth and throat and we needed to make sure that Coby does not go outside during this heat-wave.

Coby was not happy with us when we told him we'd be calling the school to make sure he did not go outside for recess ("But I want to be with my friends"), but we have to give Coby the greatest chance for success in his journey and he understands that.

(Of course I am already worrying about future heatwaves and dosing in all the years to come but I just gotta pray things will fall into place, and as time marches on his body will get more and more used to his dose and he would no longer need so many restrictions placed upon him. In the meantime I am taking comfort in the fact that Josh will be working as Coby's division head this summer, and while I don't want Coby 'babied' or singled out, Josh can help make sure the kids in general play in the shade, stay hydrated, and perhaps if the heat is too bad, keep them indoors.)

I remain cautiously optimistic that we are back on track. Yeah, we may have flown off course a bit last night,
but hopefully the ride will settle down once again.

Coby should be home in any minute, time to buckle up and give it another go....
